It's been a difficult  year...

...but that doesn't mean there isn't a great deal to be thankful for. On this light-hearted episode of The 40 Days for Life Podcast, we discuss:

  • Why the Brits don't celebrate Thanksgiving
  • The merits of deep-fried turkey and Wiffle ball
  • The many saved lives, converted workers, closed abortion facilities, and other reasons to give thanks--even amidst the most chaotic year in recent memory!

Most people these days don't seem to care much about truth. But that doesn't mean we can't provide effective witness to the dignity of human life.

On this week's episode of The 40 Days for Life Podcast, we share seven ways to share the Gospel of Life with a culture that rejects truth.

The presidential election is over and...still nobody knows what is going on in the nation's capital.

The election is still too close to call in numerous states while attorneys prepare for recounts, recanvassing, and myriad claims of election fraud. Both President Donald Trump and Vice President Joe Biden have declared victory. Meanwhile, we won't know which party retains control of the Senate for two more months!

But there's a lot we do know. On this episode of The 40 Days for Life Podcast, we discuss what's going on in Washington, D.C. and what it means for abortion-vulnerable babies over the next four years.

Oct 30, 2020

In case you haven't noticed, there's a big election coming up.

On this special bonus episode of The 40 Days for Life Podcast, we discuss the election, what it means for the pro-life landscape, and what to watch for as election returns come in Tuesday night.

God is on the move...

...and so are we. Shawn Carney, Sue Thayer, and Dr. Haywood Robinson have been on the road visiting 40 Days for Life vigils from coast-to-coast.

On this episode of The 40 Days for Life Podcast, Shawn, Sue and Haywood discuss the highlights of the fall 2020 campaign, including:

  • The experience of holding babies saved from abortion by 40 Days for Life vigils
  • Former abortion workers who are now pro-life--and even praying on the front lines at abortion facilities
  • Courageous vigil participants standing vigil just miles away from the California wildfires

It's been an exciting campaign. Tune in and learn all about the blessings God is pouring out!

When Ruth Robert signed up to lead the first 40 Days for Life vigil in Halifax, Nova Scotia, she was warned she'd be persecuted.

"What are they going to do?" Ruth asked. "Kill me?"

The question wasn't rhetorical. Ruth grew up in Saudi Arabia, risking her life to practice her Christian faith. The prospect of social ostracization wasn't going to keep her from standing up for unborn children.

On this episode of The 40 Days for Life Podcast, Shawn Carney and Ruth Robert discuss:

  • The fortitude required to live out the Christian faith amidst the threat of violent persecution

  • How she experienced culture shock of returning to the West where Christians can live out their faith...but choose not to

  • How God led Ruth to take on a 40 Days for Life campaign in a thoroughly secular city--and succeeded!

It's no secret that 2020 has been a year of social turmoil. On this episode of The 40 Days for Life Podcast, Shawn Carney, Steve Karlen, and Robert Colquhoun discuss 4 responses to injustice

They'll break down:

  • What is justice anyway?
  • What are four responses to injustice?
  • Which approaches to injustice are helpful, which approaches aren't, and which approaches actually make injustice worse?

A great way to fight injustice is to sign up for the 40 Days for Life vigil nearest you by visiting 40daysforlife.com/location.

The pick is in! President Trump has nominated Judge Amy Coney Barrett of the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals to replace the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg on the United States Supreme Court.

On this episode of The 40 Days for Life Podcast, Shawn Carney, 40 Days for Life General Counsel Matt Britton, and Steve Karlen discuss:

  • Who is Amy Coney Barrett?
  • Will she be approved by the Senate?
  • How will pro-abortion politicians try to derail the nomination?
  • What does Barrett's nomination mean for the future of Roe v. Wade?
Sep 22, 2020

U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg died this weekend at the age of 87. With the Presidential Election just six weeks away, will President Trump have time to fill the seat?

On this week's episode of The 40 Days for Life Podcast, 40 Days for Life President and CEO Shawn Carney, General Counsel Matt Britton, and Campaign Director Steve Karlen address:

  • How the "Notorious RBG" became an icon--for all the wrong reasons
  • Whether it's too soon to talk politics after Bader Ginsburg's passing
  • Who President Trump is considering to fill the opening on the nation's highest court--and the obstacles in his way

Pro-lifers everywhere know that the Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision legalized abortion in all 50 states...

...but did you know the case was riddled with intrigue, alliances, wheeling, and dealing? In the upcoming film, Roe v. Wade, writer, director, and actor Nick Loeb shines a light on the decision that ushered in the worst human rights crisis in history. After the breakout box office success of Gosnell and Unplanned, Roe v. Wade is poised to become the latest Hollywood blockbuster to bring the truth about abortion to the big screen.

We talk with Nick Loeb about how he made the film, why he made the film, and what he hopes the Roe v. Wade movie will accomplish.

"I want to pray for an end to abortion--but how do I pray for an hour (or more!) straight? Won't I run out of prayers?"

It's a common question...but in his Letter to the Thessalonians, Paul exhorts us to "Pray without ceasing." On this episode of The 40 Days for Life Podcast, Steve Karlen, Sue Thayer, and Dr. Haywood Robinson provide six ideas for prayer during your prayer shifts at the September 23 - November 1 40 Days for Life vigil:

  1. Formal prayers: The Lord taught us the Our Father, but there are many other rote prayers you can use--and parse--when you speak with God.
  2. Songs, Psalms, and hymns! It's been said that when you sing, you pray twice.
  3. Scripture: God speaks to us through His Word.
  4. Spontaneous prayers: Have a heart-to-heart with the Lord.
  5. Silence: Prayer isn't just talking with God. It's listening to Him too!
  6. Specific prayers for specific intentions: Pray for the woman who just walked into the abortion facility; for workers, volunteers and supporters of the abortion facility; or for a loved one who is post-abortive.

We also discuss how pro-lifers from different faith traditions can unite--without abandoning their own prayer style.

2020 has been a year of bad news...

..but don't get discouraged! There's a LOT of good news. On this episode of The 40 Days for Life Podcast, Shawn Carney, Dr. Haywood Robinson, and Steve Karlen discuss FIVE signs that prove the pro-life movement is winning:

  1. The pro-life position is more politically popular than ever before
  2. Abortion advocates' rhetoric is getting more desperate
  3. State-level policy is more pro-life
  4. Young people are increasingly pro-life
  5. Pro-life prayer is more popular than ever before

Don't let a hard year get you down. Listen in for some sorely needed good news!

The September 23 - November 1 40 Days for Life campaign will be like no other.

But amidst conflicts over COVID-19, racial violence, and an ugly presidential election, we can't let fatigue keep us from bringing hope to abortion facilities.

On this episode of The 40 Days for Life Podcast, we get back to basics as we discuss:

  • the role of 40 Days for Life prayer warriors in the timeless battle of God vs. Godlessness
  • the emergency operations plan we developed to equip 40 Days for Life campaign leaders for this fall's unique obstacles, challenges, and threats
  • why pro-lifers should NOT be afraid to hit the sidewalks to stand in peaceful, pro-life vigil

Does electing pro-abortion politicians who enact governmental social programs save lives from abortion?

Professor Michael New has researched the question, and the answer is a resounding "no." Instead, the Catholic University of America professor--who earned his PhD at Stanford and did post-doc work at the Harvard-MIT Data Center--determined that pro-life laws, grassroots pro-life efforts, and the use of ultrasound technology have saved millions of lives from abortion.

Tune in to this week's podcast to learn more about what does and does not spare women and babies the violence of abortion!

Nobody in the pro-life movement has insights into the abortion industry like a former abortion worker.

On this episode of The 40 Days for Life Podcast, longtime Planned Parenthood manager and 40 Days for Life Outreach Director Sue Thayer and former abortion provider turned 40 Days for Life Director of Medical Affairs & Education Dr. Haywood Robinson answer YOUR questions about the world's most gruesome line of work.

Sue and Dr. Robinson discuss:

  • Planned Parenthood's grisly litmus test for which employees will rise through the ranks of America's leading abortion provider
  • What to say--and NOT to say--to abortion workers at your 40 Days for Life vigil
  • The "God-like" sense of self abortion workers develop
  • The social implications of being an abortion worker--and of leaving the industry

207 abortion workers have left their jobs and become pro-life after a 40 Days for Life vigil was held in front of their workplace. Tune in to this week's podcast...and pray that converted abortion worker #208 will be in your city this September 23 - November 1!

Planned Parenthood doesn't agree with the pro-life movement often...

...but America's leading abortion provider finally admits that its founder, Margaret Sanger, was a racist eugenicist. The abortion giant renamed its flagship facility in Manhattan. The "Margaret Sanger Planned Parenthood" is now the "Manhattan Health Center."

On this episode of The 40 Days for Life Podcast, Shawn Carney and Steve Karlen ask why Planned Parenthood has disavowed Margaret Sanger--but continues her deadly legacy of preying on minorities, the poor, and the vulnerable.

China has been exposed for committing genocide on the Uyghur people in Xinjiang. It’s no surprise that the country responsible for the world’s worst genocide against the unborn is also committing genocide on other groups within the country.

How can a society suddenly engage in mass-scale killing—especially of the defenseless? It’s a question that’s difficult to fathom. But we can look to the history books to find the common threads and factors that make genocide possible:

  1. Dehumanizing language
  2. Scapegoating
  3. Government involvement
  4. Media support
  5. Use of technology to kill on an industrial scale
  6. Keeping the killing out of sight
  7. Punishment of dissent

The United States has a long and sacred tradition of freedom of speech and assembly--even when it comes to expression of unpopular viewpoints. But the Supreme Court recently refused to strike down buffer zone and bubble zone legislation that limits the free speech rights of pro-lifers. In fact, the Court refused to even hear pro-lifers' case against the ordinances.

On this episode of The 40 Days for Life Podcast, Shawn Carney, Matt Britton, and Robert Colquhoun look at the Court's latest attack on human life and discuss the emerging threats to free speech around the world.

Meet the new boss, same as the interim boss.

Recently, Planned Parenthood announced Alexis McGill Johnson as its new president and CEO. But there's not much new about McGill Johnson. She's held the title as interim president for the last year and has been a board member of Planned Parenthood, its lobbying arm, and its political action committee.

After a year-long search, an internal hire suggests that the role of the chief executive of America's leading abortion provider wasn't exactly a coveted position.

On this episode of The 40 Days for Life Podcast, Shawn Carney, Steve Karlen, and Sue Thayer introduce you to Alexis McGill Johnson and discuss why the future of Planned Parenthood is anything but bright.

Jul 7, 2020

Planned Parenthood's largest affiliate just fired its CEO. Hundreds of current and former employees at Planned Parenthood of Greater New York accused its executive of a long list of offenses, including:

  • Bullying employees
  • Financial mismanagement--including turning an $18 million surplus into a multi-million dollar deficit
  • Systematic racism

On this episode of The 40 Days for Life Podcast, Shawn Carney, Sue Thayer, and Steve Karlen look at the meltdown at Planned Parenthood of Greater New York.

Jun 30, 2020

Yesterday, the United States Supreme Court dealt abortion-vulnerable moms and babies their biggest judicial defeat in nearly three decades by striking down common-sense abortion regulations in Louisiana.

Chief Justice John Roberts cast the deciding vote. Roberts admitted that he disagrees with the ruling...but sided with it anyway in order to go along with the Court's historical precedent. On this episode of The 40 Days for Life Podcast, we'll discuss Roberts' betrayal, what it means for the pro-life landscape going forward, and where pro-lifers go from here.

Jun 23, 2020

Last week, the United States Supreme Court issued a landmark ruling on sex discrimination...

...but what was it? And what does it mean for pro-life Christians?

On this week's episode of The 40 Days for Life Podcast, Shawn Carney, Matt Britton, and Steve Karlen break down the Court's Bostock v. Clayton County decision, which made LGBT individuals eligible for employment discrimination protection. We'll discuss:

  • What the Bostock decision did and didn't do
  • How the surprising decision relates to abortion
  • Whether pro-lifers should be concerned about Justice Gorsuch siding with the Court's so-called "liberal" bloc

People often ask, "How many 40 Days for Life campaigns does it take to close an abortion facility?"

There's no easy answer to that question. Prayer is an important factor in closing abortion centers--but it's usually not the one one. On this week's episode of The 40 Days for Life Podcast, we look at why abortion facilities close after 40 Days for Life campaigns:

  1. Public vigils put pressure on property owners who lease to or give space to abortionists
  2. Prayer can help amplify the impact of pro-life legislation, making it difficult for abortion facilities to stay open
  3. By bumping the no-show rate for abortion appointments up to as high as 75 percent, 40 Days for Life vigils decrease abortion center clients
  4. Peaceful vigils magnify the impact of government defunding
  5. Abortion facilities in oversaturated markets are particularly vulnerable
  6. Public witness helps uncover abortion industry legal violations
  7. It's hard to find staffers to work at a facility where pro-lifers pray all day, every day.

It's been five years since David Daleiden released a series of shocking videos showing Planned Parenthood executives haggling with undercover investigators over prices of body parts harvested from aborted babies.

Planned Parenthood and its friends in the mainstream media labeled those videos "fake" and said they've been debunked. But recently, Daleiden released videos showing Planned Parenthood executives making shocking admissions under oath. On this week's episode of The 40 Days for Life Podcast, Shawn Carney, Sue Thayer, and Steve Karlen discuss these important updates--and how you can use them to expose Planned Parenthood.
